Why a black band

A black band changes how the event reads at the door. White and neon bands say day ticket and general admission; a black band says VIP, backstage, black tie or evening. It is the same Tyvek and the same full-colour CMYK print as our standard full colour band, on a black base instead of a white one.

Most organisers order black alongside a standard band rather than instead of one, so the black band separates the small group with extra access from the much larger general admission.

Designing on a black base

Artwork behaves differently on black. Light colours, white type and metallic-look golds and silvers stand out; dark colours and fine dark detail disappear into the band. Design for contrast against black rather than against white, and check the proof carefully if your logo is normally used on a light background. Security and tamper evidence

Every band carries an adhesive tamper-evident seal and a unique six-digit serial number. The seal tears or leaves a visible mark if a band is removed, so a VIP or backstage band cannot be transferred to someone else partway through a night. The serial ties a band back to its run if access is ever questioned.

What Tyvek is

Tyvek is a spun synthetic, the same material used in courier envelopes and building wrap. It is waterproof and tear-resistant, so a band survives a long night, a wet queue and a multi-day festival without softening or tearing at the edges.

Quantities and price

Order from 50 bands in batches of 10, with the price per band falling as the quantity rises. Because black bands usually cover a smaller group than general admission, most orders sit at the lower end of the ladder, so it is worth checking the tier just above your headcount before ordering.

You approve an online proof before anything is printed, which is where you check that light artwork has enough contrast against the black base.
